CARBON FOOTPRINTS

Nowadays, the world is confronted with the climate change problem which is caused by various human activities. As well as carbon footprint which is the total amount of greenhouse gases emitted by human activities including product, place, service, event, and also from the organization. These could keep raising the earth's temperature and are emitted by the use of fossil fuels in electricity and other manufacturing decomposition products. The primary consequences of these kinds of practices are climate changes. Climate change has been appearing since the 1820s, when the Industrial Revolution began. This includes efforts to reduce emissions in the industrial and agricultural sectors (producers), service sector (providers) and the general public (consumer). Those things could be expressed through carbon dioxide equivalents. Green-house gases that emitted through our world contain carbon dioxide (CO2) and methane, it also could be emitted through land clearance, burning of fossil fuels as well as production and consumption of food, roads, transportation, building and other services. In the United States, a person's average carbon footprint is 16 tons, which is one of the highest rates in the world. The average carbon footprint on a worldwide scale is closer to 4 tons. By 2050, the average worldwide carbon footprint per year must be under 2 tons to have the best chance of preventing a 2°C rise in global temperatures. Individual carbon footprints can be reduced from 16 tons to 2 tons by using some time. We can start making a huge difference by making little changes to our behaviors, such as reducing meat consumption, taking fewer flights, and hanging dry our clothes.

Furthermore, Carbon footprint is also caused by the tourism industry. Tourism contributes about 8% of global CO2 emissions. Various activities, such as aircraft trips and boating, as well as souvenirs and accommodations, all add to tourism's carbon footprint. Visitors with higher-income are the subject to high levels of this carbon footprint. The environmental footprint of tourism will grow as the number of people who can afford to travel. The most fundamental aspects of tourism are  travel all over the world by using planes, vehicles, trains, boats, and even hot air balloons. Nowadays, transportation is the primary source of greenhouse gas emissions in the tourism industry. Planes and cars produce the most Carbon dioxide per passenger mile on average, with tour buses, ferries, and trains trailing are even further behind. Although travelling by airplane has become more accessible in recent years, the number of people who travel by flying around the world has increased significantly. Additionally, transportation-related tourism emissions increased by more than 60% between 2005 and 2016. We need to reconsider our behaviors and learn how to travel responsibly. There are several ways to reduce your travel emissions and help the industry transition to be more sustainable in the future.

SWUIC is the college that provides courses about sustainable tourism studies which are also implicated with the carbon footprint problem. The college includes some courses that educate colleagues about sustainable tourism. You will gain a lot of knowledge about the causes that might happen to the environment because of the tourism industry, including the impact of carbon footprint that could possibly happen to our world.
